Karmapa in Dhagpo Möhra 2024




Dear friends,

As we are now very close to the Gyalwa Karmapa’s visit to Dhagpo Möhra, we would like to share with you more information about our upcoming programme.

On the 14th to 15th, His Holiness will continue to share his heart advice based on the 37 Practices of the Bodhisattvas.

On Sunday the 16th, he will bestow the Refuge and the Bodhisattva vows, as well as the empowerment of Dorje Sempa (Vajrasattva).

Before receiving these precious transmissions, we are preparing ourselves by reflecting on their value and meaning.
In particular, as a common source of understanding, we would like to share instructions given by the masters of our lineage about Vajrasattva practice and empowerment.




Vajrasattva in Sanskrit or Dorje Sempa in Tibetan, is an enlightened presence (Tib: yidam) associated with the purification of negativities and obscurations.

The actual meaning of purification practice is explained by His Holiness himself as follows:

« The reason why we practise the Hundred Syllables of Vajrasattva
or any other purification practice,
has nothing whatsoever to do with guilt.

Rather, the purpose of purification is to reveal to ourselves
what is beautiful, or who is beautiful.

Of course, the classic story about purification tells us
that Bodhicitta or the Buddha Nature is like gold
mixed up with or covered by dirt,
and that if we know how to purify,
we will be able to reveal this precious gold.

But from my unusual perspective,
the gold seems to be not separate from the dirt.

They are so interdependent that the revealing process or the purification
process somehow induces the gold in the dirt.

The dirt is the gold, and in the process of purification
the beauty of the dirt is brought to light,
and it is revealed to be as precious as gold. »

Generally speaking, this empowerment allows us to train in the corresponding practice and to recite the mantra of Vajrasattva.

But to receive this empowerment from the Gyalwa Karmapa has a special significance:

« Many people can transmit an initiation, but it is important to understand that if it’s an eminent bodhisattva, the effect will be different. The effect, what is called djin lab in Tibetan, blessing, will be different. If Karmapa transmits this initiation, there is a form of efficiency that is transmitted thanks to the quality of Karmapa. This quality of His is what makes it truly important. »
